It all started when…

Hello again, Champions!
It has been a busy 8 weeks since we last updated the website with some of the Q&A’s from our Monday night live streams.  Did you miss Questions and Answers, Volume 1? CLICK HERE and see what you missed the first time.
All caught up? Perfect!

In the time that has passed since Volume 1, we have been hard at work establishing the framework to support the longevity and growth that we believe Genesis: BoC is capable of achieving.  We have contracted with new printers, we are establishing partnerships with new distribution channels, fine tuning the comprehensive rules of the game and making great progress in developing the next set after Invasion, 'Metamorphosis'.
Below you will find some more questions and answers that came up during our most recent live streams.

Questions and Answers Volume 2

Q:  With the artwork appearing on the back of Genesis cards changing with the upcoming release of Invasion, will the old cards no longer be playable in official events?

A:  It has actually already been a long standing rule in Genesis that all decks are required to be sleeved during play in official in-store events.  Due to this preexisting requirement, there should be no issues with players using any combination of original card back artworks (Haunted Castle Gaming cards) and updated new Genesis cards (Edge of Exile Entertainment cards).
All cards will still be legal to play for the time being.  There will eventually come a time when there are enough sets of Genesis cards released that the game will require the separation of organized play events into some sort of distinct "current" and "legacy" formats, but we are still quite a while away from that occuring.

New card back artwork is coming to Genesis: Battle of Champions when Invasion releases, in late 2023.

Q:  Why have the names of card creators been removed for cards coming in Invasion?

A:  During the card design process, one person may come up with an idea but it is a team effort to complete the concept. This includes steps such as determining the chi and other statistics for the card, and reviews of existing gameplay rules to make sure any new cards will align and interact properly with the rest of the cards in the game.  No card is created in a vacuum by one person.
It is our view that the members of our staff rise and fall as a team.  There was no malicious or negative intent to slight people who have contributed to the development of cards in the past.  We appreciate all community involvement that occured in the past, including any submitted ideas that eventually were turned into finished cards.  We will create a list of people (as complete as possible) who we know of that have contributed to Invasions to thank them for their work.

Q: How is progression towards the US distribution going?

A:  We have completed what are known as 'sell sheets' which provide distributors with the information that they need in order to be able to list new products for sale. We have already begun reaching out to a few distributors in the United States, and are making good progress in negotiations. We hope to have more to announce regarding distribution of Genesis: BoC products to retail stores located in the United States in the near future.

Q:  Any moves back towards TCGplayer?

A:  Upon reviewing our current time table and projects that require more immediate attention, the earliest we estimate that we could begin reaching out to TCGplayer is by mid-summer of 2024. With that said, this is absolutely something that is in our long term priorities.

Q:  How many new cards are coming in Invasion in total and what are the booster box breakdown details or pull rates?

A:  Of the 134 cards appearing in Invasion, approximately 80% of the cards are new.  As for booster box breakdowns, those will be published on the website closer to release date.

Q:  Are we going to reprint Alpha cards in the future?

A:  We are open to this, but are not planning anything specific at this time.  Whenever we reprint any cards in the future they will be printed with the new style of templating and new card back artwork that all Edge Of Exile Entertainment cards will be printed with.

Q:  Did Edge of Exile actually fire 75% of the staff from Haunted Castle Gaming?

A:  Edge of Exile did not fire ANY Haunted Castle Gaming staff, and we never could have, as we aren't the same company. Any claims or statements that Edge Of Exile Entertainment fired any HCG staff is a complete fabrication, and nonsensical.
Haunted Castle Gaming shut down completely on it's own, and all Haunted Castle Gaming employees were let go as a result of their company terminating operations. Some previous Haunted Castle Gaming employees were eventually offered positions working for us here at Edge Of Exile Entertainment Inc, and they have already made some wonderful contributions while designing our upcoming Spring of 2024 set, 'Metamorphosis'.

Q:  Will EoEE be attending GenCon or GAMA?

A:  Edge of Exile Games is pleased to share that we recently became members of The Game Manufacturers Association, and we are planning for our first large event that we will be attending as exhibitors to be the GAMA EXPO (trade show) in Louisville, KY happening from March 3rd to March 7th, 2024.

We will be at GAMA EXPO, March 2024!

Q: What is happening with online play? Is Coliseum of Fate going to continue?

Unfortunately, the creator of Coliseum of Fate has made the decision to shut down that website in the near future. We would like to thank him for all of the fun and enjoyment that his creation has offered to Genesis: Battle of Champions players in the past, and wish him continued success and happiness.
In the meantime, players are still able to compete in online Genesis: Battle of Champions each month by registering with the good people at Tavern Brawlers, however you will also new to purchase a copy of Tabletop Simulator (a game / utility on Steam <PC>, available to buy >>> HERE).

Q: Do you think the lack of consistency for online play / tournaments for Genesis is due to the way it is played on a grid style board and that people prefer to play in person?

There are a number of different factors which can influence participation in online Genesis tournaments:
  • Naturally the summer is a time when people are often busy doing things outside while the hot weather is here.
  • Time zones are always a challenge as well, as these online tournaments are open to everyone around the world.
  • Thirdly, there is still a lack of awareness - many interested Genesis players simply may not yet even be aware of this online option.
  • And finally, we know that many people are waiting to see what is going to happen in the future with Genesis.  Invasion is going to be a hugely important release, and it’s level of success will definitely affect the amount of growth our game sees after it's release.

That’s all for now, but we’ll be back again soon enough with ‘Questions and Answers, Volume 3’!

My thanks to Janis Freeman, for reviewing all of our recent live streams to gather all of these questions together. - JM
