Equipment is a champions best friend

Hello dear reader, My name Is Jan Proudley and I am a member of the Genesis Battle of Champions Rules Team and a Head Judge.

Have you ever wished your Champion was tougher, had more protection and had an extra ability or two without silly enchantments? Then look no further than the newest card type coming to Genesis: Battle of Champions in Metamorphosis, Equipment.

Here are the first 2 equipments revealed, Psionic Armour and Necroplate:

As you see there's a lot going on, so let's break it down:

New symbol, new rules

Looking at the top left corner you will notice the new shield symbol instead of a heart. This is durability, a unique value associated with equipment:

When the equipment is equipped, the durability value is set at the printed value (excluding any modifiers).

An equipment’s durability cant go above its printed value.

Suit up!

The first ability is equip. It works like any other spell in the game so you pay the cost, play the card and then your Champion is equipped with the equipment and has the abilities listed on the card.

Rules of Armoured Engagement

Unlike enchantments, if an equipment of the same subtype is equipped to a Champion, the equip process will cause all other equipment of the same subtype on that Champion to be destroyed. The new equipment is always kept and the old equipment is always lost.

So how do you damage and remove equipment? Durability is reduced by 1 when either the equipped champion or attached equipment is dealt damage by a source regardless of how much damage is done.

When the durability on a piece of equipment is reduced to 0, the equipment is destroyed, removed from the arena and put into your memories.

If an attached equipment is targeted by an ability that would cause life loss, durability isn't affected as there is no health on the equipment to lose.

With equipment being printed in every Affiliation, go forth, don your Armour and discover more in Genesis: Battle of Champions next set Metamorphosis.
